San Diego Lunch 2.0: The Crew is Growing!!!

Thank you to everyone who came out today for a lively Lunch 2.0! Everyone here at dt had a super fun time and enjoyed hosting the local Web 2.0 crowd. I have to admit, the more people I meet around town, the more excited I get about what this year holds and all the cool projects people are up to- collarfree, travature, campusbug.com, barcamp, refresh and more!

I am especially excited for all the events we are putting together and am looking forward to collaborating with everyone in creating an active web community and network that we in San Diego can call our own. If you haven’t already, check out and join our San Diego Web 2.0 Community group on Facebook. We’ll post updates there on events and other cool web-related news and invite everyone to take it over!

Also be in touch if you want to swing by the office and exchange ideas, use our conference room or treat us all to afternoon drinks. (Well I thought I’d try anyway…) But seriously, our office is open for Coworking space so give us a call if you’re interested in a workstation or even just stopping in for a day.

Check out the photos, courtesy of Dan Tentler- thanks Dan!

Have a great weekend.

P.S.- Who’s the next Lunch 2.0 host???

Can supporting OpenID boost your conversion rates?

One of the hardest conversions is getting new users to register for a website. A sign-up form is the single greatest turn-off to potential users.Having to re-submit the same personal details and create new user-name/password combinations is a tedious process and one that users avoid whenever possible.

Most users tend to use similar usernames and passwords between multiple sites. But obstacles like site-specific password formats and unavailable user-names keep increasing the number of combinations that users must remember.

This hurts conversion numbers.

Can a lightning bug help you do better research?

LumifiMicro-nets are the next evolution of the way searches are done. Doing a general search in Google for band information isn’t nearly as effective as going to MySpace and looking up the band there because the paradigm of MySpace is geared better towards bands. It’s easier to make a connection with a possible business associate using LinkedIn than it is to contact them from a standard contact form on their website because LinkedIn’s environment creates a better trust between its members. Lumifi is a new entry to the search and data organization community that claims to accomplish the same niche benefits for research by pre-parsing data to be more relevant to their research topic and giving the user tools to keep it all organized.

Doodle: An Amazingly Simple Polling System

Doodle LogoI have a big family, and more often than not I end up being dubbed the coordinator, the guy to get things done and plan everything. If you are anything like me you do not like calling up a plethora of people to try and find “the best time” for everyone, only to get back a myriad of answers and then try to put them together to see what works best for all.

That is why I use Doodle instead. It is a polling system, and that is it. You name your poll, add a description, slap in some dates or choices to your liking and then create. You can then forward your unique poll URL to all the people you want to participate. Continue reading
