Got Milk? Check!

Remember the MilkAt dt we meeting every morning for half an hour to discuss the things we all want accomplished for the day. My schedule can get filled up pretty quickly if I don’t pull back the reins on my list of to-dos. I’ve been keeping a so-called “analog” to-do list for myself with this ancient technology called “pencil and paper.” This has worked well for me so far using my own little set of icons and margin indications to indicate priority, time estimation and due dates; I’m finding though that this method is still lacking though in helping me get things done. What I really need is a to-do list application that I can use on my mobile phone in the meetings, remind me when I’ve got a task to do, and help me prioritize what I want to accomplish. Enter Remember the Milk.

Task +1
Tasks +1Remember the Milk offers a robust feature set to help you keep your tasks organized and managed efficiently. Remember the Milk keeps your tasks in context through tagging, location association and URL association. To help keep your tasks prioritized properly, the system will bold those tasks that are due that day and underline those which are overdue. Tasks can also be assigned priority levels, moving them to the top of the list of items to do. If a task was not able to be completed by the date originally listed, you can postpone it and the task due date will be updated to the next day. The amount of times that a task has been postponed is tracked so you can easily tell how long you’ve been putting off turning in those TPS reports.

Did you get the memo?
Remind yoWhat good is a list of things to do if you can never remember when you need to do them? Remember the Milk reminds of you of your tasks through numerous methods and integrates into many other common applications. Remember the Milk can send you a reminder of your tasks via email, SMS, or even instant message on the day the task is due at any time you specify or if the task as a time associated with it at a specified time before it is due. Remember the Milk helps keep you informed of your lists via some unique service integrations via its API. With integration for services like Gmail, Google Calendar, Twitter, iGoogle and Netvibes you’ll always be aware of what you need to get done. Remember the Milk even offers a Google Gears offline mode that will allow you to use the to-do list system without being connected to the internet - perfect for those who travel a lot.

Port-a-task
The mobile interface for task management is simple, straight forward and crude - unless you have an iPhone. The iPhone version of the mobile interface looks pretty slick, but requires a $29.99 per year premium account. The iPhone interface and Windows Mobile Sync are the only options worth having for the price, so it isn’t worth having a premium account unless you have an iPhone or a Windows Mobile Phone. The mobile interface was created with the intention of task interaction only and allows for adding a task, editing tasks and completing tasks. Coupled with its extremely minimalist interface this does make it very quick and easy to navigate, even on a slow connection. It is simple to add new to-do items and complete or postpone existing ones.

Don’t forget the milk again
Remember the Milk is a robust solution for managing your to-do list that integrates well into your regular life. Through its multiple task organization options, advanced reminder system and service integration you’ll never have trouble remembering what you need to get done. Remember the Milk isn’t for everyone of course. Some people may want a simpler solution like 37Signals’ Ta-da Lists. For those who want a system that helps them accomplish their tasks and not just list them out though, Remember the Milk is the way to go.

Hey Chuck,
I recently made the switch to the Franklin Covey system. They have a plugin for outlook that is unbelievably good. It’s increased my efficiency by about 30% - 50%. Picture remember the milk on steroids. It not only helps you remember the milk but has a prioritizing system second to none that takes into account both personal, business and goals. You’ll need to take a Franklin Cover Focus class first before you use the system. I can’t recommend this highly enough. I’m getting all my team to use it and it’s changing lives.
